Biography
Detroit (Motown) born 'Soulspirational' Singer/ Songwriter, Melody aka The Soul Butterfly is not your average vocalist, she's also a 2009 Stellar Music Award Nominee for New Artist of the Year and the 2008 WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Association) Winner for Best Female Gospel/Inspirational Recording for her multi-genre debut project, "The Reason" which she wrote and co-produced! A multi-talented Artist, as an Undergraduate student, Melody majored in Communications & Theater Arts which later prepared her for opportunities to perform in several local Gospel Musical Productions and Stage Plays, host her own Podcast, Co-host radio shows and become a guest Motivational Speaker and Panelist!
As a startup solo artist and during college, Melody performed recording studio session work in order to gain both studio experience and to pay the bills! She never imagined that one day, her first recording project would allow her to become one of the first Independent New Artists to perform and be televised from the Landmark Grand Ole Opry stage! Melody's remarkable gifting has also afforded her opportunity to perform before and share the stage with such notable entertainers as the legendary Dionne Warwick, comedian Sinbad, Regina Belle, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, Gospel Great, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, The Clark Sisters, Heather Headley and a host of others! Melody has also performed at many notable venues such as the Washington National Mall, The John F. Kennedy Center, The Lincoln Theater, The Maryland Publick Playhouse, The Carlyle Club, and more! One of her most notable honors was the opportunity to perform at the The All-American Inaugural Ball in honor of former President Barack Obama in Washington, DC.
Affectionately known as "The Voice" by many of her followers and musical peers, Melody is equally known for her uncanny versatility in mastering each musical genre effortlessly! Offering a musical ambrosia of Soul, Jazz, Gospel & R&B; and taking you from the jazz stylings of Ella & Billie, the soul of Motown and Diana Ross to the powerhouse vocals of Stephanie Mills & Chaka Khan for a sound, style and flow that is all her own!
