Biography

'Soulspirational' Artist, Melody aka (The Soul Butterfly), is not your typical vocalist, she's also a 2009 Stellar Music Award Nominee for New Artist of the Year and the 2008 WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Association) Winner for Best Female Gospel/Inspirational Recording for her multi-genre debut project , "The Reason" which she wrote and co-produced each song!  As a multi-talented singer, songwriter and stage performer, Melody has done just what she was taught by her mother to do at a very young age (and as a Detroit/ Motown native) - "embrace, love, and nurture the universal gift that is Music!" She has done that and More! Plus, being born with a name like "Melody" in a city known for its music pioneers and legends... it is no wonder she's noted as one of the most versatile vocalists in the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan area! She considers herself a multi-genre vocalist;  and can be found performing a myriad of styles in various settings from Soul, Gospel, R&B , Pop to Jazz (and even a little bit of country - if you ask nicely)!

As a startup solo artist, Melody performed session work to gain studio experience and pay the bills! She never imagined that one day, her first recording project would allow her to become one of the first Independent New Artists to perform and be televised from the Landmark Grand Ole Opry stage!  Melody has not only been afforded the opportunity to perform before and share the stage with such notable entertainers as the legendary Dionne Warwick, comedian Sinbad, Regina Belle, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, The Clark Sisters, Heather Headley and a host of others.  She has also performed at the Washington National Mall, The John F. Kennedy Center; and also had the ultimate honor of performing at The All-American Inaugural Ball for former President Barack Obama in Washington, DC., as well as other historic venues and events in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.   Melody's also no stranger to the theater stage; having performed in several noted musical/ theater productions, which included appearances at the historic Lincoln Theater and Maryland's celebrated Publick Playhouse!

When you mix a musical ambrosia of Soul, Jazz, Gospel & R&B -  you get Melody (the Soul Butterfly)!
